This episode talks about cinema as a link between the present and the past, a way of confronting and rewriting the official narrative of History.

Cristina Gallego is a film producer and director. Her career is characterized by a long and close collaboration with director Ciro Guerra. Together they have formed a successful creative duo that has made some of the most relevant titles in contemporary Colombian cinematography. Los viajes del viento, Pájaros de verano y El abrazo de la serpiente —all premiered at Cannes and the latter nominated for an Oscar— are works that account for the complex Colombian geography and portray other sides of its history and culture. In addition, with her production company Ciudad Lunar, Cristina has collaborated with directors from other countries such as Abner Benaim, Pedro Aguilera and Annemarie Jacir.

On the other hand, Jayro Bustamante is a screenwriter, director, and producer from Guatemala, trained in France and Italy. His film Ixcanul won the Best First Feature Award at the Berlinale, with which he called the attention of the cinema critics in his country. His filmography has been characterized by frontally addressing the most acute social problems in Guatemala: racism, homophobia, and the most recalcitrant conservatism. His films have been presented at festivals such as Berlin and Venice and his most recent feature film, La Llorona, was nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Golden Globes.

Cristina and Jayro talk about cinema with a clear political commitment.
