Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna to produce and star in the Searchlight TV limited series “La Máquina” greenlit by Hulu

The La Corriente del Golfo Series Marks Searchlight Television’s Third Project for Hulu Originals

Hulu has set a straight-to-series order on “La Máquina”, with showrunner Marco Ramirez (“Daredevil”) at the helm. Gabriel Ripstein (600 Miles, “An Unknown Enemy”) will direct, with Gerardo Gatica, Leandro Halperin and Adam Fishbach onboard as producers. “La Máquina” will star Gael García Bernal (Y Tu Mamá También, Coco) and Diego Luna (Y Tu Mamá También, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Pan Y Circo, Andor), who will also produce under their La Corriente del Golfo banner. Searchlight Television is serving as the studio on the new Spanish-language limited series, which will stream on Disney’s DTC platforms as a Hulu Original in the U.S.

“La Máquina” follows an aging boxer (Gael García Bernal) whose crafty manager (Diego Luna) secures him one last shot at a title. But to make it to fight night, they must navigate a mysterious underworld force.

“We are incredibly proud to partner again with Searchlight Television on this forthcoming Hulu Original. Gael, Diego and Marco are world class storytellers and we are looking forward to bringing audiences their creation,” said Craig Erwich, President, Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment.

“It is a real honor to unite Gael and Diego onscreen again for “La Máquina”, their friendship and chemistry is a joy to experience,” said Searchlight Presidents Matthew Greenfield and David Greenbaum. “And we’re delighted to be working with Marco, whose unique voice and vision allows us to explore this world in a wholly original way.”

He currently serves as writer, executive producer and director on the political thriller and drama series “An Unknown Enemy” for Amazon Studios. He has also starred in the Primetime Emmy Awards winning “Mozart in the Jungle” for Amazon Studios, and can currently be seen in HBO Max’s “Station Eleven”, based on Emily St. John Mandel’s acclaimed novel about a post-apocalyptic saga telling the stories of survivors of a devastating flu.

Luna will soon star in the Disney+ Star Wars series Andor and lend his voice to the Warner Bros. animated film DC League of Super Pets alongside Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart. His feature films include Y Tu Mama Tambien and Milk; and most recently Wander Darkly, If Beale Street Could Talk, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and The Book of Life.
